Percy LeBaron Spencer, of Howland, invented the microwave oven in 1946.
I always heard from my grandparents and older people stating that before the town was developed, 2 Indians were paddling along the Piscatquis River, one said to the other, "How land?" That's how they got the name!! - D. Buck
